Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. I spent the early part of my career the working as a Web Designer at various Advertising agencies in Kuala Lumpur. My first exposure to user experience design was at a design agency in Singapore, when I was tasked to work on mobile banking apps for major banks like OCBC and UOB. And, as they say, the rest is history.
I consider myself a generalist. I believe designers should be well versed in more than one domain. Besides solving business problems using conventional design methodologies, I frequently find myself in high-level strategic facilitations helping various stakeholders better understand the problem through workshops like service blueprint mapping or customer’s journey mapping.
I would also conduct Design Sprint workshops whenever we are working on a new project that requires alignment and clarity from stakeholders. In my opinion, cross-functional collaboration should always be encouraged. It not only generates fresh perspectives, but also helps the team iterate efficiently. Designers should never limit themselves to just conducting user interviews and executing layouts.
In 2018, I conducted a workshop at UX Copenhagen titled ‘Sketchstorming’ where I taught designers the importance of team collaboration, and how they can help achieve better results in a more quick and efficient manner. I love to share my learnings with other designers. As Jim Kwik famously said, “when you teach something, you get to learn it twice”.
Besides work, I am into documentary photography. Photography is one of the most effective practices to understand and develop human connections. I recently published a 30-page photozine titled, “Life along the Routes”. It is a series of images that invites viewers to read and understand the human activities along these former Silk Road territories.
I like good challenges, because they help me to progress and expand my experience so that I will be able to take on more responsibility. I am currently looking for a new opportunity where teamwork and growth opportunities are a significant part of the company culture.
Thanks again for dropping by my site, and I sincerely look forward to hearing from you soon.
